We just finished a Momentum Board retreat, and our expert facilitator, Marc Kramer, guided us through play that became the basis of our work. At one point, we broke into groups and had to build together something based on a phrase that he gave us, and the other groups would have to guess what it was.
Can you guess what phrase board members Jeff Singer (yes, our first man on the board!) and Rivka Kidron and I built?
Here’s a hint…..
Blue is water…
The red is the signature color of Momentum.

One of the founding principles of Momentum is: If we work together, we can do so much. Everything, from day one, has been done in partnership. Not partnership in name only, but truly working closely with a vast array of Jewish organizations, providing them with a platform of engagement that many have told us has become a “game-changer” for them.
The Momentum Year Long Journey that begins with a transformational 8-day trip to Israel is designed for those at risk of drifting away from the Jewish community and their Jewish identities. The results are phenomenal– long-term data shows five years post-trip, 26% of families now are choosing Jewish Day Schools for their children. That means over 13,000 children are now receiving a comprehensive Jewish education on a daily basis. Talk about “game-changer”.

So what phrase did our blocks represent?
“A rising tide lifts all boats.”
G-d loves when His children work together. We don’t have to be all the same, and in fact, coming together not in spite of our differences but because of our differences is what Hashem has been waiting for all along.
Yes, all boats rise. We see it in marriage, in parenting, in extended families, and in the Jewish people. Let’s hope and pray we continue to see it in the Jewish organizational world. Instead of seeing one another as competition, let’s work together as partners, coming together for the greater good of all.
Valuing peace over being right is a gift we give ourselves. So, it’s time to learn to apologize – even when we aren’t in the wrong! Practice saying “oops, I blew it” or “wow, I sure got that wrong” to prepare ourselves for the moments we’ll really need to say them. Otherwise, we may win the battle – but lose the war.
Being a peacemaker among our peers can deepen our ability to see two sides of a story and offer perspective in problem solving. This advice isn’t just for adult relationships. For kids, this opportunity can play out daily during recess, in the cafeteria, on Instagram, or over text.
