One day in Israel
This week I had some out-of-the-house meetings and had to grab two taxis. One day, two drivers, two stories that have stayed with me long after the day was done.
I am still in the U.S. on a Momentum fundraising and speaking tour. I look down at my phone; it’s a WhatsApp message from our son, Zev, in Israel: “Where is the bomb shelter?”
This week all our hearts and prayers are turned towards Israel.
World media slams Israel as the aggressor, when in fact they were the victims of a one-sided assault of over 1,600 missiles fired on its civilians. The headlines were maddening, claiming Israel had started the conflict and calling for restraint.
Corona….Meron….and now war. The non-stop drama is taking its toll on our people. But with the dramatic escalation in conflict comes a surge of incredible achdut, unity, amongst Jews all over the world. Rallies in communities, endless social media posts of support, psalms are shared and recited….
Just as we come together in hard times, let us come together in good times, too. Today, we may have no answers, but we can continue to pray.

who are in distress
and captivity
who wander over sea
and over land —
May God have mercy on them,
and bring them
from distress to comfort,
from darkness to light,
from slavery to redemption,
now, swiftly,
and soon.
And let us say: Amen.
