A Day in the Life of an Israeli MOM: Ella Gan-Or 6/11/2023
It’s already been a month since the terrible 7.10.
Life as we knew it has been replaced with an emergency routine.
Where we live, the explosions from Gaza are clearly heard, and my thoughts immediately wonder to our brothers and sisters – and children, and babies, held captivated by Hamas in Gaza. How are they? Are they cold? They must hear the booms very loudly. They must be scared.
My children are in a safe place, they are with my parents up north and started going to school there this week.
The heartwarming welcome they received moves us deeply and strengthened us.
We are one people, brothers and sisters.
This week I went to shelters in Ashkelon, I came to do some fun activities for children who have not been in school for over a month now.
They do not have a safe room at home and some of them sleep on mattresses in their neighborhood shelters.
I met cute and happy kids, and I met the parents, sometimes grandparents – everybody seems a bit tired, but more than that- everybody is united!
Everyone wants to help with whatever they can.
I see the growing antisemitism in the world and it breaks my heart. It’s scary, but I know that something has to change.
Maybe it is us that are changing, maybe we finally understand the meaning of being one people – am echad. Sharing the same blood, the same tradition and the same destiny.
Brothers and Sisters. I’d like to send love and prayers to anyone who read my words anywhere in the world, be safe and strong ?? We will overcome, together.

After over two years of being super careful, my husband and I finally got Covid. I will count our blessings this week, as there is much to be grateful for.
It’s clear why I am excited, as this will be one of the first groups into Israel since 2019, but why am I nervous?
