Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht: Man plans, G-d laughs
Everything sounds better in Yiddish.
Two years ago, the Palatniks planned to gather in Minneapolis for Passover, as one of our sons-in-law is in law school there. A Momentum sister and friend was going away with her family and generously offered us her beautiful home to use.
Well, being it was 2020, that never happened. My husband and I made “Honeymoon Pesach” by ourselves in our home in Jerusalem.
Last year we never even tried to gather in America, so we stayed in Israel and were able to host some family and vaccinated guests.
This week we are talking about Pesach again. With that same son-in-law scheduled to be in finals and about to graduate from law school, it looks like, all being well, it may be Minneapolis in the cards after all. But as we see in the world– who knows?
Only The Almighty.
Since few of us have “crystal balls” (anyway forbidden in Jewish law ), all we can do is our best when it comes time to “plan.” We can choose to be angry and frustrated, or we can make our best effort and realize that some things are simply not meant to be. We want it to be one way, but G-d has decided it will be another.
In the meantime, we are checking flights and everyone’s schedules. Where will we be for Passover? Exactly where we are supposed to be.
