The following is the introduction to the unit on the value of Peace and Wholeness in the Home.
What kind of home do you want to nurture and live in? Our Jewish tradition values shalom bayit, building a peaceful and harmonious home where relationships are a living laboratory for growth and reclaiming our wholeness. Shalom comes from the same Hebrew root as wholeness, shleimut. In a home filled with contrasting personalities and competing needs, we strive to create a harmonious whole.
The Jewish month of Elul is a time of introspection as we begin to prepare for the High Holidays, Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. We review our actions from the year that has passed and work on improving ourselves and our relationships. As mothers, we think about the happiness and wholeness of our home, and how we can improve the relationships between family members.
Family relationships are notoriously hard work, but they are also tremendous opportunities. While the context of each relationship is different, and some relational challenges are insurmountable, many family relationships offer a unique crucible for transformation and personal growth which allows us to repair our deepest selves, our communities and ultimately the world.
The Journey of Growth book enriches the Momentum Journey. Most partner organizations build on Journey of Growth resources to deepen group learning. Mothers use the book to share learning with friends and family and to bring the learning back to their children.
A copy of the Journey of Growth book is sent to the Partner Organization for each participant, Community Leader and Madricha after the trip. The Journey of Growth is published in English, Russian, Spanish and Hebrew.
