Thinking about hate is hard. But to recognize and combat it, we need to understand where it comes from and how it affects us and our loved ones. On a special three-part Momentum Boost series, we’ll explore the origins of modern antisemitic language, learn why antisemitism is on the rise on college campuses, recognize its devastating effect on the world today – and learn how to combat it.

This 3-part series has been made possible by the Russell Berrie Foundation.

Session 1: Choose Your Words: Understanding Antisemitism, Anti-Zionism, and Anti-Israel Sentiment

Language matters. That’s why, when we talk about hatred, it’s important to understand what hatred actually is. Join us as we explore the historical context behind three divisive phrases: antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and anti-Israel sentiment. What do they mean? Where did they come from? And how are they used – and weaponized – today?

Session 2: Hatred in Higher Education: Encountering Antisemitism On Campus

It’s tough to be a college student. It’s even tougher when you are constantly on alert for antisemitism – both overt and subtle – in your classes, among friends, and from your school administration. We’ll explore the ways in which antisemitism presents itself in higher education, and the complex historical and modern factors that cause hostility toward Jewish identity on campus.

Session 3: From College Campuses to the “Real World”: How Antisemitism Spreads

College definitely isn’t Las Vegas – what happens on campus will never just stay on campus. Likewise, the rise in antisemitism in higher education won’t remain on campus. Explore the many ways in which anti-Semitism follows college students out into the “real world” and enters mainstream politics, social media, religious institutions, and communities.
