Dear Momentum Family–
A momentous week, indeed!
As most of you know, we took a big leap and have rebranded based on our global reach and trajectory towards the future. In 2008 when 8 women gathered in Utah to change the world through Jewish women, the name we chose fit us and what we thought we were creating beautifully.
Who knew that 10 years after the first trip landed in Israel that we would have grown from 8 North Americans to 18,000 participants from all over the world (along with an initiative for men that would take off from it)?
Our original name and letter acronym became a memory and pronunciation challenge for those who spoke Spanish, Hebrew, Russian, and Portuguese… And the men were embarrassed to explain to the customs officer that they were with The Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project.
Our trip name became Momentum, working in every language except Korean! And it worked so beautifully that we have now adopted it as the name of the movement itself.
It starts with MOM, it leads to MEN, and in the middle, linking both is ME.
“If I am not for myself, who will be for me.” Pirkei Avoth, Ethics of Our Fathers
As we mark our 10th year of transformational trips, we celebrate how far we have come, but we also look to the future and what could, with the help of The Almighty, be.
May the momentum continue and Momentum continue to be blessed.
Good Shabbos, Shabbat Shalom–
